Where to Meet Your Driver at Hobby (HOU)

Houston Airports puts passenger pickup at HOU in the lane marked “Curb Zone 2 and Zone 3”, outside the Baggage Claim and Arrivals level. Follow the signs to “Arrivals” and your chauffeur meets you there.

Arrivals are on Level 1. That is the single most useful fact on this page, because Hobby stacks arrivals under departures rather than spreading them sideways, and people who have only flown out of Hobby default to the upper level.

There are no terminal letters to get wrong and no separate international arrivals hall to walk to, which is what makes HOU a far simpler pickup than IAH. One terminal, one arrivals curb, two zones.

Departures are on Level 2. Follow the signs to “Departures” on the way in, because the ramp splits from arrivals early and there is no convenient way back around once you have committed to the wrong level.

For a departure we work back from the flight rather than the drive. Domestic, be at the curb two hours before departure, and Hobby is almost entirely domestic. Then add the drive: roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Sugar Land or Missouri City, and longer on a weekday morning. Send the flight number and we will name the time we pull up at your door.

Houston Airports states plainly that parking is not permitted at terminal curbside at HOU, on the arrivals side and the departures side both. A car cannot sit and wait for you.

The answer is the cell phone lot, at 7450 Airport Boulevard, Houston, TX 77061. It sits on the south side of Airport Boulevard, a block east of Telephone Road, it is free, it is open 24 hours, and the driver has to stay with the vehicle. Follow the signs to “Cell Phone Lot”.

That is where your chauffeur waits with your flight on screen. The car pulls to Curb Zone 2 or 3 once you tell us you are outside, so you are not standing at an enforced curb wondering where the vehicle is, and we are not circling the terminal.

Hobby is a smaller airport than IAH and it behaves like one. Allow 15 to 25 minutes from touchdown to the curb with checked luggage, and 10 to 15 carry-on only. Taxi time is short and the walk from most gates to baggage claim is genuinely brief.

Because Hobby runs overwhelmingly domestic traffic, there is no customs and immigration window to plan around the way there is at IAH Terminal E. What you save at Hobby you often spend on the drive, since it sits southeast of downtown while most of our passengers are southwest.

We track the inbound flight from wheels-up either way, so the car adjusts to the actual landing rather than the time somebody guessed at booking. Send the flight number and that part takes care of itself.

Hobby is about 11 miles southeast of downtown Houston, which puts it on the opposite side of the city from Sugar Land. From Sugar Land or Missouri City plan on 30 to 40 minutes, which is a shorter run than IAH and one reason a Hobby flight is often the easier choice out of Fort Bend.

From Katy, Richmond or Fulshear it runs longer, since you are crossing the whole metro. Those windows already carry a Houston traffic buffer, but a 7 a.m. departure and a 10 p.m. arrival are different drives and we plan each one from the flight.

An executive sedan suits one or two passengers with normal luggage. A Cadillac Escalade ESV, which seats six, is the call for a family, a team flying in together, or anyone whose bags will not fit in a trunk.
